A zoo lit with holiday magic
Each December, thousands of bright LED lights illuminate the pathways, rooftops, and enclosures throughout the sanctuary. Lighted animal figures peek out from the trees, sparkling ornaments hang above the walkways, and the entire zoo takes on an enchanted glow that feels warm and welcoming.
Guests can wander through a forest of decorated trees, admire glowing displays, and enjoy the kind of atmosphere that makes kids wide eyed and adults pleasantly nostalgic. The event blends holiday whimsy with the mission of the sanctuary, making every ticket a way to support the animals who call Folsom home.
New this year: Santa’s Workshop
For 2025, visitors will get to explore the brand new Barnyard Experience facility, which is being transformed into Santa’s Workshop for the season. It’s a charming new stop where families can snap photos, explore festive decorations, and meet Santa himself.
Music, treats, and nighttime train rides
Local caroling groups and musicians bring the soundtrack of the season to life throughout the event, creating pockets of sound and warmth along the pathways. Seasonal refreshments are available to keep spirits high.
For many families, a must do is a nighttime trip on the miniature scale live steam Starlight Express train. Tickets are five dollars per person, and the ride winds through glowing displays that feel especially magical after sunset.
More holiday cheer throughout the sanctuary
Guests may run into Santa Claus, but the zoo’s own Santa Paws often steals the show. Folsom Zoo Docents also host animal presentations, giving visitors a chance to learn more about the sanctuary’s residents while enjoying the festive setting.
A holiday tradition that gives back
Wild Nights & Holiday Lights celebrates the season while supporting the important work of the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, which cares for rescued animals that cannot be released back into the wild. It’s an event that leaves families smiling and helps ensure these animals receive the specialized care they need.
