Million Dollar Quartet Christmas

A Gold Country Getaway with Million Dollar Quartet Christmas

If your holiday season needs a little more rock and roll and a little less stress, point your car toward Sonora and let the Gold Country work its old-fashioned magic. The streets are lined with historic storefronts, the air smells like pine and cold mountain evenings, and Sierra Repertory Theatre is serving up a show that could power the town’s Christmas lights all by itself.

Million Dollar Quartet Christmas brings together Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash for a festive twist on the legendary Sun Records jam session. The result is a holiday concert wrapped inside a story that feels both nostalgic and electric. The performers channel the swagger and sound of the originals while adding seasonal surprises that turn familiar hits into December showstoppers. Blue Suede Shoes and Great Balls of Fire feel right at home next to rockabilly Christmas tunes that will have you wondering why your playlist has been so quiet.

Sierra Rep stages the production with the warmth of a hometown celebration and the polish of a big-city show. The intimate space means every seat feels close to the action. You can see the grin on Jerry Lee’s face, the flash of Carl Perkins’ guitar work, and the quiet confidence of Johnny Cash holding down the room. It is energetic, funny, and full of heart without slipping into sentimentality.

Make a weekend of it. Wander downtown Sonora, sip something warm, browse the antique shops, and enjoy that rare feeling of slowing down without giving up any fun. Million Dollar Quartet Christmas turns a simple getaway into a story worth repeating.
