Merlinos: A Sacramento Summer Tradition That Never Melted Away

Merlinos at the Ballpark

Merlino’s Freeze: From Governors to Grandkids

Back in the sweltering summers of Sacramento’s mid-century boom, few things were more coveted than a small orange Freeze from Merlino’s. For just a quarter, you could tame the triple digits with a frosty citrus swirl. Even former governors Jerry Brown and Ronald Reagan were spotted lining up for a taste.
Fast forward to 2025, and the treat lives on — now exclusively served at Sutter Health Park, home of the Sacramento River Cats. Thanks to a savvy purchase by the team in 2008, the iconic dessert returned, bringing with it waves of nostalgia and sticky-orange smiles.
