Sip, Savor, and Strike Gold — Historic Folsom Hosts Gold Rush Bartender Challenge
Get ready to raise your glass to creativity and craft this February in Historic Folsom! Throughout the entire month, the much-anticipated Gold Rush Bartender Challenge returns to Folsom’s charming historic district, inviting cocktail lovers and curious sippers to explore a spirited journey through inventive libations inspired by California’s Gold Rush heritage.
From February 1 through February 28, 2026, participating bars and restaurants in the Folsom Historic District will each pour a unique Gold Rush-themed cocktail designed specifically for this year’s competition. No registration or sign-up is required — simply stroll through town, sample inventive drinks, and discover new favorite haunts along the way.
Here’s how it works: patrons purchase their chosen cocktails at local establishments, and after trying at least six creations, they can cast their votes using QR codes found throughout the district. Each vote helps decide which bartender earns top honors based on creativity, presentation, and overall wow factor.
Prizes for bartenders include $300 for Best Overall, plus $100 awards for Best Presentation and Most Original concoctions — all generously donated by last year’s winner, Powerhouse Pub. The competition culminates with a celebratory gathering on March 1, when winners will be announced and toasts poured with fellow cocktail lovers.
Participating venues span the district’s vibrant dining and nightlife scene, and include beloved stops like City Slickers, Fat Rabbit Public House, Folsom Hotel, Plank Craft Kitchen + Bar, Riley’s on Sutter, Samuel Horne’s Tavern, Scott’s Seafood Roundhouse, Sutter Street Steakhouse, and more.
Whether you’re a seasoned mixology fan or simply enjoy discovering new drinks with friends, the Gold Rush Bartender Challenge offers a fun, free-to-join way to celebrate Folsom’s lively bar scene. Mark your calendar, pace yourself, and make the most of this flavorful month of spirited competition!
