The excitement is building as we approach the 15th Annual Running of the Elk, happening on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at District56 in Elk Grove, California! This family-friendly event has something for everyone—whether you’re a seasoned runner tackling the 5K or 10K, a parent cheering on your little ones in the Kids’ Fun Runs, or simply looking for a fun day out in the community.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 28, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, when you can swing by Fleet Feet Elk Grove (7460 Elk Grove Blvd. Ste 120) for packet pickup. If you can’t make it, no worries—race day packet pickup and registration begin at 7:00 AM on Sunday. The Kids’ Fun Runs kick off at 8:00 AM with a 1/4-mile dash for ages 6 and under and a 1/2-mile run for ages 7-12. Then, at 8:30 AM, the 5K and 10K races take off—strollers are welcome, so feel free to bring the whole crew!

Every participant gets some awesome swag: a moisture-wicking event t-shirt, a commemorative acrylic finisher medal, and access to post-race perks like pancakes, fruit, free photo downloads, games, and vendor booths. Plus, age-group winners and top finishers in the 5K and 10K will take home unique elk-themed awards—perfect for bragging rights!

There’s something magical about watching a butterfly flutter by — but at Butterfly Fest in The Secret Garden, you can experience their full life cycle up close and personal.

This beloved annual tradition is back for two beautiful weekends: September 13–14 and 20–21, and it’s one of the most joyful, educational, and photo-worthy family events in the Sacramento region.

Each year, the Gulf Fritillary butterflies return to lay their eggs on the passionvine plants that thrive in the garden’s lush, lovingly maintained habitat. During Life Cycle Tours at 11 AM, guests are invited to explore the transformation from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly — a real-time look at metamorphosis that feels like stepping into a living science book.
But the event isn’t just for bug lovers and budding entomologists. The garden will be buzzing with face painting, a local coffee cart, plant discounts (15% off all perennials!), and expert advice on how to start your own pollinator-friendly garden.

Admission is free — all you need is curiosity, a camera, and maybe a sunhat.

The Pear Fair has been a cherished Delta tradition since 1972, making it the largest and longest-running agricultural fair of its kind in Northern California. It’s a fantastic event that brings together locals and visitors alike to celebrate all things pear-related.

Sunday’s Pear Fair

On Sunday, the Pear Fair will open its gates from 9 AM to 6 PM. There’s something for everyone, from delicious pear treats and beverages to crafts, games, and live entertainment. It’s a family-friendly event, ensuring fun for all ages.

Entry and Parking Details

Good news – there’s no cost to enter the fair! However, there is a $20 per car parking fee, which benefits the local Fire Department and provides scholarships for local high school students. Please note that this is a cash-only fee on-site, but you can pre-order parking and other items via the Eventbrite page.

Important Notes

For everyone’s comfort and safety, please remember that dogs are not allowed, except for service animals. This helps us comply with health department standards and ensures a safe environment for all attendees. Given the typically high temperatures, we kindly ask those with dogs to refrain from bringing them along.

We missed you in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 health crisis, but we were thrilled to return with a successful fair in 2022. Now, as we celebrate the 51st Pear Fair, we are more excited than ever to continue this beloved Delta tradition. A big thank you to the amazing volunteers who make this event possible year after year!

The Strauss Festival, held from the final Thursday through Sunday of July, is a dazzling showcase of choreographed storylines set to the exquisite music of Austrian composer Johann Strauss and his family. Each year, the festival brings a fresh, captivating narrative that keeps audiences spellbound. The enchanting performances are brought to life by a live orchestra under the skilled baton of Sacramento-based conductor Paolo Reyes.

Meet Maestro Paolo Reyes
Paolo Reyes, a talented conductor with a passion for orchestral music, graduated with a Masters of Music Degree in Orchestral Conducting from Sacramento State, studying under Leo Eylar. Since then, Reyes has made a name for himself as the assistant conductor for the Camellia Symphony Orchestra and has guest conducted for Citywater, Sacramento’s premiere new music ensemble. His diverse musical interests also led him to direct several productions at Fairfield’s Missouri Street Theatre. Reyes is the founder and music director of the Sacramento State Summer Symphony, an academic orchestra showcasing the strengths of Sacramento State’s Music program.

An Evening of Elegance
Each evening of the Strauss Festival begins with a prelude at 7:30 PM, where guests can admire and photograph the elegantly dressed dancers as they promenade through the park. The main performance starts at 8:15 PM, with a delightful intermission before concluding around 10:00 PM. The festival takes place on the stage at Elk Grove Regional Park’s Strauss Island, with the audience enjoying the show from a grassy knoll by the lake. The warm evening breezes, shimmering lights on the water, and the presence of resident ducks add to the magical ambiance.

Getting There
Finding Elk Grove Regional Park is easy. From Interstate 5 or Highway 99, take the Elk Grove Boulevard exit. Travel east on Elk Grove Boulevard until you reach Elk Grove-Florin Road, then turn south (right). Continue on Elk Grove-Florin Road until you see the park entrance on your right. Follow the signs to Strauss Island and prepare for an unforgettable evening.

From 10 am to 6 pm, Elk Grove Boulevard from 2nd Avenue to School Street will transform into a bustling wonderland filled with holiday cheer. Imagine strolling through Old Town, discovering charming local shops, listening to festive holiday music, and exploring over 125 arts and craft vendors, commercial vendors, and community groups. It’s the perfect opportunity to find unique gifts and support local artisans.

Hungry? You’re in for a treat! The Old Town Plaza will host a variety of food trucks, offering delectable holiday foods to satisfy every craving. As the day winds down, the festivities continue. At 5:00 pm, join us for Christmas carols, continuous live entertainment, and Story Time with Santa. The grand finale is the Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:00 pm, where Santa will flip the switch to light up the town Christmas tree at Walnut Street. It’s a heartwarming tradition that brings the community together and officially ushers in the holiday season.

The Elk Grove Veterans Day Parade is organized by Cosumnes CSD and the Elk Grove American Legion, bringing the community together for a day filled with gratitude, remembrance, and fun.

The day kicks off at 10 am with a heartfelt ceremony featuring the Reading of the Names, a touching tribute to the brave men and women from our community who have served our country. This ceremonial start is a beautiful way to honor their sacrifice and service.

At 11:11 am, the parade will set off from the Cosumnes CSD Administration Building and make its way to Elk Grove Park. The streets will be lined with spectators waving flags and cheering for our Veterans, making it a joyous and patriotic event for all ages.

But the celebration doesn’t stop there! After the parade, join us for a community picnic at Elk Grove Park. It’s a great opportunity to relax, enjoy some good food, and mingle with friends and neighbors. The picnic is open to everyone, so bring your family, grab a blanket, and make it a memorable day.
