Sacramento Mesothelioma Causes

At this point, the only known cause for mesothelioma in the United States is that the patients have a history of exposure to asbestos. Asbestos was used for fire proofing, electrical insulation, building materials, brake linings in cars and trucks and has been used in many industries.

When the asbestos fibers are breathed in, they travel into the nooks and crannies of the lungs where they irritate and can cause physical damage to the mesothelial cells that can result in mesothelioma cancer. These fibers can also cause damage that can result in lung cancer and asbestosis (excessive scarring of tissue on the lungs).

When swallowed, the asbestos fibers can enter the abdominal cavity where they can cause peritoneal mesothelioma.
